Many environmental organizations celebrate Environmental Education Day on January 26. The main task of the International Environmental Education Day is to emphasize the importance that this scientific discipline plays to the social dimension of environmental problems and focuses on creating the awareness, knowledge and motivation to address, solve and prevent these problems.
In this sense, Global Media plays an essential role in spreading this message. A recent study has proven that the search of topics related to climate (e.g. “climate action”, “climate emergency”) are raising interest among internet users, especially when citizen engagement events are taking place and the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) publishes relevant reports. This suggests not only a significant increase in people’s interest in climate change but also an evolution of the language of the public on the issue.
The need of scientists, teachers and communicators capable of translating that science to motivate and inspire wider audiences to make well-informed choices, is also relevant to all crosscutting environmental problems to climate change (e.g. management of invasive alien species, biodiversity loss, land use management).
