Legal Framework
EASIN provides technical and scientific support, by gathering, analysing, modelling information and data on alien species, to the relevant European Union policies on biodiversity:
EU 2030 Biodiversity Strategy, and in particular to the commitment to minimise, and where possible eliminate, the introduction and establishment of alien species in the EU environment within target 2 -‘Protecting and restoring nature in the European Union’ 2.2.10. Addressing invasive alien species;
Regulation (EU) No 1143/2014 on the prevention and management of the introduction and spread of invasive alien species: EASIN has been appointed as the official information system supporting Member States in the implementation of the Regulation;
Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) 2016/1141, 2017/1263, 2019/1262, and 2022/1203 adopted specific lists of invasive alien species of Union concern. To support official surveillance, the JRC has prepared baseline distribution maps of the species of Union concern in collaboration with MS Competent Authorities included in the first two Implementing Regulations.
