European Alien Species Information Network (EASIN) Team
Fabio CROCETTA *

Fabio was born in 1983 in Naples (Italy), and he is a marine biologist and zoologist. His Ph.D. focused on a multidisciplinary approach to the study of marine biodiversity (Università degli Studi di Napoli Federico II and Stazione Zoologica Anton Dohrn - Italy), to which he has always been attracted.

Fabio has worked in different projects related to Eastern Atlantic/Mediterranean marine biota, he is mostly interested in Mollusca, particularly in cataloging their biodiversity and updating their taxonomy, nomenclature and distribution. He is author of >35 peer-reviewed publications (24 ISI) (April 2014).

Fabio has worked as a trainee at the Water Resources Unit of the Institute for Environment and Sustainability (JRC), where he was a member of the scientific team of EASIN. His role was to provide scientific support to the developing of EASIN, especially on the quality assurance of the EASIN Catalogue of alien species.

Ana Luisa NUNES *

Ana Luisa Nunes (Ph.D.) is a biologist from Lisbon, Portugal. She has completed a 5 years degree in Terrestrial Biology and recently a Ph.D. in Ecology.

She has experience in field surveys, sampling and monitoring of terrestrial and freshwater species, with a special focus on herpetofauna. Her research has been mainly focused on biological invasions on freshwater ecosystems, more specifically on the newly established interactions between recently introduced invasive species and native communities.

She has worked as a trainee at the Water Resources Unit of the Institute for Environment and Sustainability (JRC), where she was a member of the scientific team of EASIN.

Sara PELÁEZ SÁNCHEZ *

Sara was born in 1986 in Zamora (Spain), has a BSc in Biology and a Master U. in Ecosystem Restoration Alcalá university (UAH, Madrid).

She has been always concerned about environmental preservation working as a volunteer in LIFE+ Canal de Castilla (2008) and CONAMA (National Environmental Congress)(2010-2012).

She made an Erasmus trainership in the Biodiversity Department of Louvain la Neuve University (UCL, Belgium) where she developed her thesis about orchids conservation and management between 2009-2010. Her work so far mainly focused on restoration ecology and the recovery of ecosystems services in several degraded areas, such as rivers, agricultural fields and forestry systems.

Sara has worked as a trainee at the Water Resources Unit of the Institute for Environment and Sustainability (JRC), where she was a member of the scientific team of EASIN, mainly supporting the development of EASIN-Lit.

Marco TROMBETTI *

Marco Trombetti (Ph.D.) is a forestry scientist from Bari, Italy.
He has completed a 5 years degree in Forestry Sciences and he specialized in the application of GIS and Remote Sensing geospatial techniques and methods for environmental analysis. He has experience in spatial modeling, natural risk assessment and vegetation status monitoring. He worked in Spain, Italy, Netherlands and USA for universities, research centers and private firms.
He joined JRC in 2011 as a consultant, working as a GIS analyst for modeling the multimedia chemical fate of pesticides and the consequent risk assessment for pollinating bees. He has been involved in the scientific support of EASIN, working on the refinement of the EASIN Catalogue and the quality assessment of the database.

Stelios KATSANEVAKIS *

Stelios Katsanevakis (Ph.D.) is a marine ecologist specialized in benthic studies with a broad experience in field surveys, monitoring, and modelling.

His research focuses on population and community dynamics, biological invasions, marine conservation and management, biological monitoring.

He has conducted many surveys investigating alien species occupancy, spatial distribution, impact, or invasion patterns in the Mediterranean. He has participated in several EU-funded or other international and national projects and is (co)author of >160 publications (76 in peer-reviewed international journals).

Stelios has been a member of the scientific team of EASIN and he has been working on the design and further development of EASIN, the compilation and quality assurance of the EASIN Catalogue of alien species, and the scientific support of EASIN.

Konstantins BOGUCARSKIS *

Konstantins, from Riga in Latvia, is a software developer. He has completed studies in Electronic Engineering and later in Physics from the Technical University of Riga, Latvia.

He joined the JRC in 2004. He has since then contributed to number of JRC projects as a software engineer e.g. EURDEP, FATE, LCT. Konstantins was employed at the Water Resources Unit of the Institute for Environment and Sustainability, JRC, European Commission. He was responsible for software delivery within various projects including EASIN where he was acting as the system architect and core components developer.

Francesca GATTO *

Francesca Gatto (MSc) is a plant ecologist with experience in ecological assessment and field surveys.

She worked as a research assistant in the Water Resources Unit of the Institute for Environment and Sustainability (JRC), mainly on the appraisal of current status of invasive alien species in Europe.

Francesca has been a member of the scientific team of EASIN and she worked on the compilation of the EASIN catalogue of alien species and the scientific support of EASIN.

Jochen VANDEKERKHOVE *

Jochen Vandekerkhove (Ph.D.) is a Belgian freshwater ecologist. He studied different aspects of the ecology of zooplankton, ostracods and alien species, and this in different environments (shallow lakes, temporary ponds, WFD surface water bodies) and contexts (scientific and policy oriented).

Within the Water Resources Unit of the Institute for Environment and Sustainability (JRC) he did pioneering work for the EASIN platform, including conceptual design, capacity building, networking, development of the alien species catalogue and web content management.
