M. graminicola is a key pest of rice, native to South-EAST Asia (India, Indonesia, Bangladesh, Malesia, etc.), and causing severe yield losses. First described in the USA, is also present in Brazil, Colombia and South Africa.
Careful monitoring is ongoing in Piedmont rice fields and will also be performed in the adjacent rice production areas in Lombardy region.
