EASIN led a recently published paper thank to a fruitful collaboration with EU Member States' experts, on refined baseline inventories of marine non-indigenous species, aka NIS, in the context of the Marine Strategy Framework Directive (MSFD). The inventories are given per EU Member State and MSFD subregion up to 2012. The analysis, which used also EASIN updated datasets, revealed that a large number of NIS was not reported from the initial assessments, and corrected the status of some native species considered alien or misreported. The baselines constitute an improved basis for reporting new NIS introductions after 2012, facilitating the implementation of the MSFD Descriptor 2.
