The new release of the “Invasive Alien Species in Europe” smartphone App, developed by the Joint Research Centre of the European Commission, is available. The app enables the general public (amateurs and professionals) to report occurrences of Invasive Alien Species (IAS) of Union concern according to EU Regulation 1143/2014. Guidance on species identification is provided through dedicated factsheets and intuitive menu. The new release includes the translation into Romanian, and improvements in user interaction. The EU Regulation on IAS highlights the importance of raising public awareness: citizens validated data can supplement the official surveillance carried out by Member States Competent Authorities, and help stimulate active citizens’ involvement in IAS monitoring and management.
