The new JRC baseline of Union concern species

The EU Regulation 1143/2014 on Invasive Alien Species (IAS) gives management priority to a list of species of Union concern. The availability of an updated distribution of species is key for Member States authorities to define actions and adopt management measures.

The last published JRC report defines an EU baseline of spatial distribution for 13 IAS of Union Concern out of 22 added to the Union list by Commission Implementing Regulation 1203/2022. The baseline is built on data aggregated through the European Alien Species Information Network (EASIN), checked and supplemented in collaboration with the Competent Authorities of the EU Member States.

The baseline constitutes an important tool supporting the implementation of the IAS Regulation, helping designing and adapting surveillance and monitoring systems.
