The project addressed the invasion of Karlovy Vary Region by non-native plants with the aim of developing management treatments for reducing the invaded area. Results of the different combinations of chemical and mechanical methods were presented as well as detailed results on the evaluation of treatments effects on the condition of water, soil and biota. The project has created an Information System (IS Heracleum, http://gis.kr-karlovarsky.cz/heracleum-public/), which records all the information on the sites of targeted species occurrences. The sustainability of the project, including the IS has been ensured for the next 10 years.
EASIN (European Alien Species Information Network) scope, approach and tools was presented at the conference. It was explained that EASIN was conceived as a scientific tool aimed at providing scientific information in support to the EU policy on biodiversity and on Invasive Alien Species, gathering and harmonizing information from several sources worldwide. The extent and quality of EASIN depends on the network of collaborators. The Karlovy Vary project has gathered important data and knowledge that could be indexed and shared through EASIN.
