EU Forest Strategy for 2030 adopted
Forests are essential for human well-being due to their environmental and socio-economic functions. Resilient forests are essential for people´s adaptation to new climatic conditions.
The European Commission has adopted the New EU Forest Strategy for 2030, aiming at supporting the reduction of the greenhouse gases emission across the EU by 2030. The strategy includes concrete actions to improve the protection and restoration of EU forests as well as to adapt Europe’s forests to climate change.
To the benefit of native biodiversity and climate adaptation, the planting of native tree species is recommended. Restoration actions will avoid the use of alien species, and a list of invasive alien species which should never be used is highlighted.
