EASIN - European Alien Species Information Network
EASIN at the European Workshop on Control and Eradication of Invasive Alien Plant Species
EASIN was presented at the WS as “one-stop-shop” information system on alien species occurring in Europe, in support to scientist research and to the implementation of Reg. 1143/2014 on IAS.
The Workshop took place in Budapest, 19-21 April 2016.
EASIN was presented at the WS as “one-stop-shop” information system on alien species occurring in Europe, in support to scientist research and to the implementation of Reg. 1143/2014 on IAS.
The current features and capabilities and the planned developments, including citizen science and a smart-app on IAS, generated a wide interest amongst participants; so was it for the announced close launch of a renewed EASIN website, which scientists were invited to test and comment.
During the WS, participants highlighted the need for: a correct and shared terminology (both scientific and legal), updated scientific information on IAS, guidelines for surveillance, and for availability of effective and low-impact eradication measures. Raising awareness of the general public on IAS recorded a wide consensus, as well as involving citizens in IAS detection and control.
EASIN was welcomed by participants as information system providing valuable updated information on IAS at European level, and will be mentioned in the conclusions of the WS as platform for sharing best practices in eradicating IAS. Some scientist expressed their interest in joining EASIN network of data partners.
