The Asian Hornet is an invasive alien species of Union Concern under Regulation (EU) 1143/2014. The species is native to Southeast Asia and was introduced in Europe for the first time in 2004 in France, through boxes of pottery from China. It is a highly aggressive predator of native honeybees and wild bees and could also be dangerous to humans by inducing a life-threatening anaphylactic reaction if stung.
If you spot an individual of V. velutina in Italy, you can report to STOPVESPA
