Dear Editorial Board Member, Would need your advice if this planktonic foraminifera is an alien species in European seas. It has been reported only from Turkish coasts: Meriç, E.; Avşar N.; Nazik, A.; Eryılmaz, M.; Yücesoy-Eryılmaz F. (2004). Saros Körfezi’nin (Kuzey Ege Denizi) güncel Bentik ve Planktonik Foraminifer toplulukları ile çökel dağılımı. Yerbilimleri (Geosound). 1-44. Unfortunately, I cannot trace the above publication to check if there is any justification of the record provided. Would appreciate your advice if the species should be listed as alien or not in Europe, and if yes under what kind of status (established, casual, questionable, cryptogenic). Thank you.

The planktic foraminifer Pulleniatina obliquiloculata (Parker and Jones, 1865) has been suggested to be an alien species. It has been recorded from the Gulf of Saros (Turkish: Saros Körfezi) locacted in the northern Aegean Sea (NW Turkey). The reference given for the appearance of this species is: Meriç, E.; Avşar N.; Nazik, A.; Eryılmaz, M.; Yücesoy-Eryılmaz F. (2004). Saros Körfezi’nin (Kuzey Ege Denizi) güncel Bentik ve Planktonik Foraminifer toplulukları ile çökel dağılımı. Yerbilimleri (Geosound). 1-44. According to the authors, Pulleniatina obliquiloculata is shown on p. 33, Plate 5, Figs. 7a-d (labelled as Pullenitiana obliquloculata). The species illustrated and identified as Pulleniatina obliquiloculata on Plate 5 is not a planktic foraminifer and it is definitely not Pulleniatina obliquiloculata (Parker and Jones, 1865).
