Guardias and OneStop are two EU-funded projects focusing on advanced research and management of invasive alien species, of which EASIN is a scientific partner. GuardIAS focuses on aquatic invasive alien species, both in freshwater and marine environments. The project aims to improve the detection and prevent the spread of invasive alien species in such habitats using novel methods — such as artificial intelligence (AI), environmental DNA, satellite imagery, underwater robotics and monitoring systems, and the development of an early alert system.
OneSTOP seeks to minimise the introduction, establishment and spread of terrestrial invasive alien species, by integrating new detection approaches with data dissemination methods and models to prioritise species and action through stakeholder engagement and effective management. By leveraging technologies including computer vision, environmental DNA (eDNA) and citizen science. To support policymakers and practitioners, OneSTOP is implementing a data-driven prioritisation system, model projections, and multi-criteria analysis to assess and rank risks posed bb IAS, ensuring that data and software are open and FAIR, the project facilitates rapid information sharing.
OneSTOP is also incorporating co-creation methodologies through five Living Labs, culturomics for socioeconomic insights, and active stakeholder participation to harmonise policy goals, enhance public engagement and improve IAS management strategies.
The two projects align with EASIN's objectives of safeguarding the EU's biodiversity by managing and preventing the introduction and spread of IAS. Leveraging advanced biosecurity technologies, to provide more comprehensive, accurate, and up-to-date data, contributing to the depth and quality of information available on EASIN.
EASIN will contribute to the goals ofthe two projects with the capacity of its information system and consolidated expertise, sharing data and information to increase stakeholders’ and public’s awareness , enhance public engagement, and enable decision makers to prioritise actions. We are looking forward to working with you!
