EASIN is an initiative of the Joint Research Centre of the European Commission (EC) that enables access to data and information on alien species occurring in Europe. It contributes to the EC priorities “A European Green Deal”, “A stronger Europe in the world”, and “Promoting our European way of life”.
EASIN is the information system facilitating the implementation of biodiversity policies with targets on alien species such as EU Regulation on invasive alien species, the Marine Strategy Framework Directive, the Biodiversity Strategy to 2030, and assists policy makers and scientists in their efforts to tackle biological invasions.
EASIN draws diverse data sources together through collaborations with EU Member State Competent Authorities and Data Partners. EASIN makes her data accessible, interoperable and reusable to users; Web tools and services can be used freely and independently by policy makers, researchers, stakeholders and users from the public, while ownership of the data remains within its source, which is properly cited and linked.
