Thread Opening Text: Mediterranean specimens have been reported by Galil & Goren (2014) as Pempheris rhomboidea. Which is the correct binomial name?
Argyro ZENETOS 5/6/2014 - 2:04 PM
Pempheris vanicolensis is a valid species according to WoRMS Indeed Galil & Goren (2014) have reported Pempheris rhomboidea and the same species appears in AquaNIS. However, this is not a valid name in WoRMS. It needs further investigation.

on 20.5.14 Prof Dani Golani replied to my query: Recently Randall et al (2013 J. Ocean Sci. Found.)published a paper and consider the Pempheris in the Mediterranean as P.rhomboidae. Later Koeda (2014, Zootaxa) published that the species in the Mediterranean is P. mangula and rhomboiae is actually a junior synonym. on 21.5.14 Dr. Ernesto Azzurro replied to my query: Recently We submitted a paper that would confirm the identification of this species as P. rhomboidea

Data on Pempheris vanicolensis (R11008) were moved to Pempheris rhomboidea (R18213).
