New update of the list of Union concern
Invasive alien species (IAS) are animals and plants that are introduced accidentally or deliberately into a natural environment where they are not normally found, with serious negative consequences for the new environment.
The EU defines a list of ‘invasive alien species of Union concern’, for which the EU Member States must take coordinated action to prevent and manage their introduction and spread.
The list is updated with the inclusion of new species based on risk assessments made by experts following the requirements in art. 5(3) of the EU Regulation 1143/2014 on IAS, and the further scrutiny by Member States Competent Authorities in a specific Committee.
A draft proposal for the update of the list of Union concern includes 30 species, which risk assessments are available at https://circabc.europa.eu/w/browse/1dd916e3-e138-43c1-8a88-44a03100a9da
The European Union has launched a public consultation on the IAS to be added to the list of Union Concern in 2022. Have your say by 14 of December! https://europa.eu/!Xjw6jJ
