Is the species Alburnus alburnus synonym with Alburnus albidus? If not, should the latter species be considered as alien in Europe (or parts of Europe)? Thank you

posted by Elena Tricarico on 12/10/2020: I know that the systematic of the species has been revised and now we have three species: A. albidus, native to Basilicata area, South Italy (introduced in other parts of South Italy), A. alburnus native to central-east Europe (introduced to Spain, Portugal and Italy), A alborella native to North Italy (Adriatic basins) and some Croatian basins (introduced in Central Italy and some Croatian localities). So, A. alburnus is not a synonym of A. albidus. The new systematic is reported in Kottelat & Freyhof (2007). Handbook of European freshwater species. (Even if not all the experts agree on that). Hope this helps!
