Mediterranean records ascribed to Dendostrea frons/D. folium, Dendostrea sandvichensis (= Alectryonella/Dendostrea crenulifera) and Alectryonella plicatula (Gmelin, 1791) should be listed as a single species "Dendostrea sp." (see Crocetta et al., 2014)

The presence of Dendostrea frons in the Mediterranean Sea was excluded, and previous data belonging to this taxon were linked to Dendostrea cf. folium.
