Hrabe (1941) [Acta Societatis Scientiarum Naturalium Moravicae, 13: 1-37] originally described this species in Danube River, and Milbrink & Timm (2001) [Hydrobiologia,463: 93-102] and Timm (2013) [Estonian Journal of Ecology, 62: 121-136] considered it as invasive alien species for Europe (Sweden) and western part of Turkey.
