Thread Opening Text: This species has been excluded according to "expert contribution". However, the most shared view is that Crassostrea gigas and Crassostrea angulata are different species, easy-to-identify with molecular markers. Therefore, Crassostrea angulata should be added to the catalogue. See also WORMS page on this species

indeed they are different species the reason it has been excluded is because it is extinct Introduced into Portugal from Taiwan (Boudry et al., 1998), but in other European countries the species has been imported for cultivation from Portugal for many years (‘Portuguese oyster’). in the Netherlands: The species has been deliberately introduced several times into the Zeeland estuaries, but did not establish itself (Van Benthem Jutting, 1937, 1943; Kaas & Ten Broek, 1942; Korringa, 1965; Wolff & Reise, 2002) in France: intentional release in Arcachon Bay (SE Biscay)but extinct in Germany: we believe this is C. gigas !!! not established / extinct, only old records Meyer-Waarden 1964 in UK extinct: DAISIE In Ireland none, once cultivated established then extinct

Ok, but in the Adriatic it may be still present - see last record in Fabioux C., Huvet A., Lapègue S., Heurtebise S. and Boudry P. (2002) Past and present geographical distribution of populations of Portoguese (Crassostrea angulata) and Pacific (C. gigas) oysters along the European and north African Atlantic coasts. Haliotis 31, 33–44.
