Thread Opening Text: Triturus ivanbureschi, Balkan crested newtBuresch's crested newt, (horrible thing) has been recently found in Parc Natural del Montnegre, close to Barcellona, and it seems is quite common also in Cantabria, see: https://twitter.com/LifeInvasaqua/status/1260661383978418177 Is this species eligible to the EASIN Catalogue, considering it is partly native in the EU?

The species is definitely alien in Spain, and as such qualifies to be included in the EASIN catalogue. I could not retrieve exact information on the actual species occurring in the area, because there are other sources which refer to Triturus anatolicus instead, see here https://parcs.diba.cat/web/l-informatiu/-/montnegre-el-parc-del-montnegre-i-el-corredor-continua-realitzant-el-seguiment-dels-tritons-exotics. Triturus anatolicus and T. ivanbureschi are cryptic species that are collectively labeled as T. ivanbureschi sensu lato, see also the following paper: Wielstra, B. & Arntzen, J. W., 2016, Description of a new species of crested newt, previously subsumed in Triturus ivanbureschi (Amphibia: Caudata: Salamandridae), Zootaxa 4109 (1), pp. 73-80: 74-79 For a definitive reply, it would be good if clarifications regarding how the species occurring in the area was identified are provided. In the meantime, the only peer reviewed article I managed to retrieve with information on the issue, is the following, which refers to Triturus anatolicus: Martel, A., Vila-Escale, M., Fernández-Giberteau, D., Martinez-Silvestre, A., Canessa, S., Van Praet, S., Pannon, P., Chiers, K., Ferran, A., Kelly, M., Picart, M, Piulats, D., Li, Z., Pagone, V., Pérez-Sorribes, L., Molina, C., Tarragó-Guarro, A., Velarde-Nieto, R., Carbonell, F., Obon, E., Martínez-Martínez, D., Guinart, D., Casanovas, R., Carranza, S., Pasmans, F. (2020). Integral chain management of wildlife diseases. Conservation Letters. https://doi.org/10.1111/conl.12707 Therefore, for the time being I propose to temporarily add a record in EASIN for the species Triturus anatolicus in Spain, to be revised as soon as new scientific evidence on name and origin of the animals is available.
