Is Herpestes javanicus auropunctatus (found in EASIN) conspecific with Herpestes javanicus? Some sources treat the 2 taxa as synonyms but others not. If treated as separate taxa, do they both exist in Europe as alien species? In that case, H. javanicus should be added in the EASIN catalogue.

Info on: Bertolino S. -The taxonomic status of the mongoose introduced into Croatia Tentatively proposed by the EASIN team: change the name for the EASIN entry from H. javanicus auropunctatus to H. javanicus. We will put a note in the synonyms that “this species has been reported from the Balkans mainly as H. auropunctatus, which is tentatively considered as a synonym of H. javanicus”.
