Thread Opening Text: Is this an alien species in Europe? If yes, we would need some scientific expertise in order to include it (taxonomic position, status, first record, synonyms, distribution, pathway, impacts, etc)
Andrea VANNINI 9/30/2015 - 5:25 AM
Persooniella saccardoi is synonymous of Puccinia saccardoi, a rust fungus affecting Goodeniaceae plants. In 2011 Puccinia saccardoi has been included in the Puccinia lagenophorae complex. The latter is an exotic species introduced from Australasia and actually distributed worldwide. Possibly the species spread worldwide through trading of ornamental hosts (Markus Scholler, Matthias Lutz, Alan R. Wood, Gregor Hagedorn, and Mechthilde Mennicken (2011) Taxonomy and phylogeny of Puccinia lagenophorae: a study using rDNA sequence data, morphological and host range features, Mycol Progress (2011) 10:175–187) As a consequence I would suggest Persooniella saccardoi () Taxonomic position: Eukaryota › Opisthokonta › Fungi › Dikarya › Basidiomycota › Pucciniomycotina › Pucciniomycetes › Pucciniales › Pucciniaceae › Puccinia Status: alien First record: 1889 as Puccinia saccardoi, 1884 as Puccinia lagenophorae Synonyms: = Puccinia saccardoi F. Ludw., Hedwigia 28: 362 (1889), = Puccinia lagenophorae Cooke, Grevillea 13 (65): 6 (1884) Distribution: worldwide Pathway: trading of plant material Impact: pathogen of Goodeniaceae species
