Thread Opening Text: An EASIN user casts doubts on the alien status of this species (recorded as alien both in DAISIE and NOBANIS. Running a query on geographical distribution no data on "native range" are available. Can the issue about the origin/native area of this species be clarified?
Giuseppe BRUNDU 12/1/2015 - 2:20 PM
I would suggest to consider the Euforgen Map as a good proxy of the native distribution, the report is available at: http://www.euforgen.org/fileadmin/bioversity/publications/pdfs/EUFORGEN/1322_European_beech__Fagus_sylvatica_.pdf

The taxon is considered as alien, according to NOBANIS data base (see below cited link) https://www.nobanis.org/species-info/?taxaId=1266 in Estonia, Lithuania and Ireland Regarding the countries it is NATIVE, please visit Euro+Med web site copied below http://ww2.bgbm.org/EuroPlusMed/PTaxonDetail.asp?NameId=23372&PTRefFk=8000000

Thread Closing Text: The native range will be updated accordingly in the EASIN system.
