The Brown Marmorated Stink Bug (BMSB) – Halyomorpha hyalis Stål (Heteroptera, Pentatomidae) is a polyphagous bug, native to Asia and recorded as an extremely invasive pest of many agricultural crops.

This pest has been reported in Switzerland, Italy, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary and Romania (http://www.revagrois.ro/PDF/2015-1/paper/2015-58(1)_21-en.pdf). The pest was listed on the EPPO alert list.

The insect is spreading rapidly in northern Italian regions and causes damages to fruit crops. Emilia Romagna Region Plant Health service, organized a technical meeting on monitoring and containment strategy for 2016 and a scientific workshop to address this problem (http://agricoltura.regione.emilia-romagna.it/approfondimenti/2016/cimice-asiatica-strategie-di-lotta-e-prevenzione-1).

Further research on BMSB biology and distribution has been conducted by the University of Modena, and the results will shortly be published.
