The European Environment Agency (EEA) published the latest results and tools that support the implementation of EU Regulation 1143/2014, offering evidence-based insights into prevention, detection and management of invasive alien species (IAS) across the European Union. A briefing together and a suite of interactive dashboards, present the outcomes of the Member States reporting cycle 2019–2024 on IAS of Union concern according to art. 24 of Reg. 1143/2014.
The briefing summarises the progress made by EU Member States in implementing the Regulation on 87 regulated IAS, while the dashboards provide user-friendly access to key information on the distribution of IAS of Union concern, prevention measures, pathways of introduction, early detection, rapid eradication and management actions.
Developed through collaboration among the EEA, the European Topic Centre on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (ETC-BE), Member States Competent Authorities, these resources provide an accurate overview to support policymaking and contribute to monitoring the implementation of the EU IAS Regulation.
The Joint Research Centre (JRC) supported the reporting process by ensuring data interoperability across EU IAS information systems. Through EASIN, the JRC provided harmonised baseline distribution data and notifications from NOTSYS, the European early warning system on IAS, helping Member States prepare consistent and comparable reports.
The new briefing and dashboards offer valuable insights into Europe's response to one of the main drivers of biodiversity loss and strengthen the knowledge base for coordinated action against IAS.
