An EU geographical distribution of the 37 Invasive Alien Species (IAS) of Union concern (published in the Commission Implementing Reg. 1141/2016) is set through a Science for Policy Report, based on the best available knowledge.
This report is the result of an assessment of occurrence and distribution data aggregated through EASIN submitted for verification to all Member States (MS) Competent Authorities. 18 MS have been able to provide a feedback correcting or supplementing EASIN data.
The report provides useful information supporting MS in the implementation of the IAS Regulation 1143/2014 and in the establishment of a surveillance system for the targeted species, fostering cooperation and coordination across borders or within shared biogeographical regions.
The baseline constitutes also a factual basis for the review of the application of the IAS Regulation, and for monitoring the achievement of Target 5 of the EU Biodiversity Strategy and other relevant EU policies.
