The alien copepod Parvocalanus crassirostris (Copepoda, Calanoida, Paracalanidae) was for the first time identified in the Central Adriatic sea. The most probable vector is ballast water from cargo ships.

The current assessment of the invasive potential of P. crassirostris indicates a low environmental impact risk, but based on studies of the species biology, reproduction, and the resilience to physical fluctuations of the environment, an invasive potential in enclosed coastal locations can be expected.

The Authors recommended to monitor further spreading and potential influence on native paracalanid populations in Šibenik Bay.
